Hurricane Safety Zone

Welcome to Hurricane Safety Zone
There is no natural disaster as deadly as a hurricane, and for those living in the certain parts of the United States and Caribbean, this nightmare, more often than not, turns into a reality. In 2004 alone, four hurricanes (Charley, Francis, Ivan and Jeanne) pounded parts of the Southeast United States and Caribbean, inflicting most of its damage on Florida and Alabama, as well as leveling vacation paradises such as Jamaica, the Bahamas and Cuba. These are very dangerous. That's why you need to consider our home safety tips.

Although hurricanes can be predicted better now than in the past, their path can change in an instant. Unfortunately, there are no guarantees when it comes to hurricanes and the damage they can inflict. This was evident this past week with Hurricane Katrina. Ask anyone in New Orleans or Mississippi who didn't heed the hurricane evacuations and decided to ride out the waves--it is always better to be safe than sorry.

Hurricane Safety Zone will guide you through the do's and don'ts of hurricane season and hurricane safety. Everything you'll ever want or need to know about protecting yourself and your loved ones during a hurricane will be covered by Hurricane Safety Zone. Topics we naturally think of are hurricane shutters, but our site also covers things that might slip your mind, like pet safety and fire safety. Whatever the subject, Hurricane Safety Zone will have you more prepared in no time.

Wind safety -- Obviously this is a big part of preparing for a hurricane. Hurricane winds must be at least 74 miles per hour. But that's a mild hurricane. The winds can be much, much stronger and many times they are. Hurricanes are categorized according to the speed of the wind, which is called "velocity." Here are the hurricane categories:

Wind Speed Categories:

Category One - 74-95 miles er hour
Category Two - 96-110 miles per hour
Category Three - 111-130 miles per hour
Category Four - 131-155 miles per hour
Category Five - Winds greater than 155 miles per hour

Fire safety -- Rarely when people hear the word "hurricane" do they think of fire safety. But the truth of the matter is, there is a risk of fire after the storm due to downed power lines and electrical shortages.

Pet safety -- Another issue is what to do with pets during hurricane. Many people have indoor domesticated animals, but during a hurricane you may be stuck inside for hours or even days. Pets get restless. Some animal shelters house pets during times of hurricane.

Safety products -- What do you need to ensure your safety and the safety of your loved ones and property during a hurricane? Obviously, heed evacuation warnings.

Hurricanes can be a frightening event, but with Hurricane Safety Zone we will have you more prepared. Let Hurricane Safety Zone help you prepare yourself in the event of a hurricane. Don't wait until the last minute, plan now. Home safety is essential.
