Hurricane Rita

Hurricane Rita -- Not as deadly as Katrina, but disastrous none the less. Hurricane Rita followed in her bigger sister's footsteps and ravaged an already damaged community.

Hurricane Rita Brings Horrible Memories

This past hurricane season brought some of the worst destruction to hit the United States in Years. With the combined forces of Hurricane Katrina and Hurricane Rita, parts of the Gulf region will never be the same...or at least not for a while. States like Louisiana and Mississippi and parts of Alabama and Florida were brutalized by Hurricane Rita and her bigger sister. These hurricanes did not just destroy property and houses, but lives as well. Many died, but many still live with the nightmare, a nightmare that will haunt them for a lifetime. Many people have been uprooted and left their hometown, most forced to leave because of unlivable conditions.

"We couldn't even walk outside after Hurricane Rita hit. We had to use pieces of wood we found to float down the street, past debris, wreckage, and even bodies. It was a horrible sight. We thought that all the hurricane safety precautions we took would be enough, but I guess what was meant to happen will happen. We just hope others take this as a lesson. Hurricane Rita was not as bad as Katrina, but it hit almost immediately afterward, not giving us a chance to catch our breaths. These 2005 hurricanes were horrible in every way."Mary

"We left on vacation, and when we came back we were hit with the reality that our lives were gone. Hurricane Rita and Hurricane Katrina wiped us clean out, they left nothing behind. Of all the hurricanes I've been in, Rita and Katrina are definitely the worst. There was nothing anyone could do -- short of leaving the state -- to survive two tragedies in not just one year, but one season. Maybe this is a message for all of us, next time be more prepared. Or maybe there's a deeper message."Carl

Make a conscious effort to do all that you can in preparation for Hurricane Wilma. Although she is expected to be only a category 1 by the time she reaches Florida, we should know by now that with hurricanes we can expect the unexpected.
